Field Descriptions

Soil and Ecologic Site information contained in these tables was generated from the NASIS soil database and is not considered to be the official soil data. The tables are created and saved in the .xlsx format and are compatible with Microsoft Excel version 2007 or newer. The fields in the tables are:

Field Description
County Represents the county name. Some counties will contain multiple soil survey areas (represented by the AreaSym field)
AreaSym This is synonymous with SSAID and represents the Soil Survey Area. Soil Survey Areas can span multiple counties.
Mapunit Represents the symbol of the soil mapunit.
Mapunit Name Represents the name of the soil mapunit.
Component Represents the name of the soil component. Many soil mapunits will contain multiple soil components.
Percent This represents the percentage of the mapunit that the named component represents. In some mapunits, the percentage will not sum to 100. This is an artifact of the NASIS soil database.
Ecosite ID An 11 character code representing the Ecological site ID starting with F denotes forestland ecological sites and ecological sites starting with R denote Range ecological sites.
Ecological Site Name The name of the ecological site.
Cokey The cokey as it is presented in these tables is a concatenation of the muiid and the coiid from NASIS.

In some cases, an ecological site is not correlated to a soil map unit component; therefore the ecological site id and name will be blank in the table.
