  • All National Resource Inventory (NRI) policies are located in the USDA-NRCS General Manual Title 290 Part 400 as well as in agency Title 290 national bulletins. However, policies do not always explain “how” to complete the tasks that are needed in order to comply with those policies. This is especially true for staff who are new to the NRI Grazing Lands (NRI-GL) processes. To aid in that process, the NRI-GL team in Ames has prepared a guide that, like the Handbook of Instructions, is designed to assist SRICs or their designees in completing the NRI-GL steps. This is for your benefit if you work in NRI-GL efforts, so your feedback is encouraged. If you have suggestions on ways to improve the guide please contact Erik Suffridge at esuff@iastate.edu.

  • The issue of when or whether to collect data on hayland has existed for quite some time. In reviewing the issue it seems like there have been many different answers given in the past leading to a potential lack of consistency in the data collections. For that reason, the NRI-GL team in Ames worked with the NRI-GL subject matter experts to develop a position statement in the form of a brief Q&A format. It is hoped that this document will provide a single point of clarification for anyone with NRI-GL hayland-related questions.
